"The Nutty Buddy Solution- AKA Plumpy'Nut"
Can Peanut Butter save the world! How simple solutions
can make a difference
Plumpy' Nut is a basic nutrition project has been overwhelmingly
successful. COLORS International has paired up with Christian
Medical Services and Relief South Africa to provide this basic
blend of nutrients to young children under the age of six in
the community of Thembalethu. Now many of you are probably asking,
so what exactly is it? Well, it is a peanut butter base mix
combined with children's milk powder plus a multivitamin/ mineral
supplement called 'food of life' which also contains pro-biotic.
Director Sunyata Choyce say's "We have seen significant
improvement in the health and immune capacity of some of the
children who get it each day: brighter skin, more energy, thicker
hair, clearer eyes, less diarrhea…."
The formula was developed by a French nutritionist and it doesn't
need refrigeration, water, or cooking.
Each serving is the equivalent of a glass of milk and a multivitamin.
The World Health Organization has recognized the utility of
this food "Plumpy'Nut) for famine relief.
COLORS will be calling their home made version of the Plumpy
Nut, "Nutty Buddy" since COLORS version contains less
sugars and more probiotics to promote healthy living.
An even more unique aspect of the COLORS Nutty Buddy project
is that it has enlisted the help of a group of local children.
The children, who live at St. Mary's Children's Home, have
been put in charge of making and helping deliver the product.

Choyce said she sees it as an excellent way to teach them
about giving back to their community. "We're really excited
about it because it teaches the kids volunteerism. We want the
kids in the children's home to be able to help the children
in the community who have even less than they do....and they're
excited when they see a difference. They are always asking us
if they can come to help more".
Project COLORS, Children's Overseas learning Opportunities
and Resources, originally started 6 years ago in here George
by Sunyata Choyce (Canada) and Anke Busheing (Germany) while
volunteering for CMSR . COLORS has grown, and returned to George
SA. They hope to expand and grow the Nutty Buddy project over
the next few years here in South Africa in partnership with
the local community. The more support they get for this project
the more kids can be touched by the outreach. They hope local
families will soon learn to make nutty Buddy , so they can feed
their own kids well too.
An amazing highlight on the global progress of plumpy nut is
available below. COLORS was so amazed by what you about to see
that we had to make our own project with this miracle food!
Please take a look and support charities making plumpy'nut-nutty
